LIFE AS IT IS

The Visionary – Alive and Well in Us

What matters to you? … or what used to matter to you? … or, if you had to guess, what do you think matters to you?

It's important to know what matters to you – what dream blazes away in your heart … or lurks in there
and won't go away. You may have written it off as impossible or silly or just plain out of reach, but it hangs in there, popping up at odd times, relentlessly bugging you.

Ann Barnett once asked me what I would love to do, if, by magic, all obstacles were removed. Without conscious thought, I answered that I would like to be an international teacher. I was 33, newly divorced, mother of a 2-year-old, with an unfinished Bachelor's degree – no way, Jose! I laughed – delighted with the image, derisive of the possibility. Eight years later, my Master's degree nicely framed, my psychotherapist license on the wall, my designation as a Senior Trainer for the More To Life Program accomplished, I was off to London with my 10-year-daughter, Rebecca, to teach people how to actualize their dreams; to stand in their personal authority, regardless of what was happening around them; to keep their hearts open to those they love. And since then I have been to the UK many times – as well as to New Zealand and Africa (where I even lived for 2 years). Who would have thought?

But it IS what I wanted in my heart of hearts. And it was something I had never told anyone before. And I promptly wrote it off as The Impossible Dream. Don Quixote, I am not.

And yet, here I am today, believing that we, as human beings, have the potential to create heaven on earth … that each of us makes a difference with every breath … that moment by moment we add to world war or world peace with our internal landscape … we are either in a peaceful/productive/vital space, adding to the energy of world peace; or we are in a revengeful/destructive/ennui space, adding to the energy of world war. So peace on earth really does begin with me … and you … and you … and you.

If you're busy pursuing your dream, you don't have as much time to do
that other stuff. And it's not as if there isn't at least one important
dream in each one of us – it comes with the package.

PS The picture is called Inner Space by Ari Douet – it hangs on my wall in my bedroom.
