A Grateful Mom
It's hard to believe. And yet, at 3:20am forty years ago today, a miracle happened. I had no clue about the extent of that miracle. In fact I had given up ever being granted the wish that had been close to my heart for several years.
I didn't know how expanded my heart would get. The concept of unconditional love became a real, ongoing experience. For that alone, I am grateful.
But wait, there's more. Rebecca was born a happy child, bright of mind, warm of heart, and spiritually tuned in. She was and is busy, aware of nuances in people and in environment – situational awareness, they call it. I call it awake. She's the Help Desk at home – for all of us – whether it's homework, computer questions, or "where's my socks?" She just "handles things" – with quiet aplomb.
Did I tell you she gave me a beaut of a black eye when she was 8 months old? Or how proud I was of her as a scholar and as Most Outstanding Female Athlete. Or how she maintains her FAB body with CrossFit? She may seem laid back and easy to be with, but just put a pair of tennis shoes on her feet, you'll see a competitor to this day.
Rebecca – child of my heart, kindred spirit – I am proud of who you are in our world – honest, compassionate, real, humble – not to mention smart and beautiful. You're my greatest contribution to this world.
