Justine Hunt – Spiritual Warrior
This is a picture of Justine Hunt and Sharu – from our elephant-backed safari near the Pilansberg Game Reserve in South Africa. I have her permission to share a significant transformation in her life.
Over two years ago, her sister, Tracy – a young, beautiful, dedicated woman – was taken by a crocodile in St. Lucia, a resort that she and her fiance were visiting. Since that time, Justine (and many others) grieved Tracy's death. And, quite understandably, Justine focused a lot of bitterness on that crocodile. While it was normally not obvious, bitterness would surface easily when she would spiral into her grief.
During the More To Life Weekend in Johannesburg, Justine let go of that bitterness. The bitterness affected the crocodile not a whit. The bitterness was ravaging her body, mind, and spirit – affecting her entire outlook on life, even when it was lying subsurface … like the crocodile.
I know of no act as transformational as letting go of bitterness and all its forms, releasing the past and being present to the Now. It wasn't done easily. It was accomplished through copious tears and anguish … letting go of her pain that was rooted in the past, while redeeming her willingness to live joyfully, reclaiming her relationship with her sister, moving into her future … sans the bitterness. And while that bitterness may reappear in times of grief, it has lost the hold it used to have, and she now knows how to transform it … at her will.
