LIFE AS IT IS

Birth > death

Adriana's Shower 5This last weekend, I experienced a baby shower in honor of William and Adriana Holt's twins, whose debut is imminent; and the next day was a celebration of the life of Darcy Young- Nutter.

Someone asked me if we should cancel the baby shower out of respect for Darcy. I thought about it for a bit. First of all, Darcy would be pissed to have a party cancelled – she not only loved parties, she loved babies (having had 4 herself). Second of all, the juxtaposition of two celebrations – one for the beginning of life, the other for the ending of life – seemed appropriate and the reality of Life As It IS.

There is something beginning and ending in me – always. The ending of one day sets up the next day; Unknown changing homes, relationships, beliefs, commitments – they are all endings of one iteration of myself, which sets up the next iteration. Or is it that the next iteration of myself dies to the last iteration?

However it works, IF I am working/evolving, something is always being born, while something else falls away. (Even if I am not consciously working/evolving, Life seems relentlessly fixed on that process, whether I like it or not. And most of the time, I don't even get a vote – I just get an opportunity to grow .. in some way.)

And that same relentlessness applies to dinosaurs, families, teams, companies, industries, countries, land masses, oceans – all vitally evolving – adjusting – letting go and welcoming in.

Pretty exciting, don't you think?

Bottom right: we let go massive amounts of balloons at Darcy's celebration of life.

  1. Hi, Ann. Would you please clarify what you mean by “Or is it that the next iteration of myself dies to the last iteration?” I’m not getting an idea that makes any sense to me.
    Thanks,
    Camille
