Cameron Allan’s Birthday Party

I arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand yesterday morning, just a bit off plum, unable to count on my mind operating as efficiently as normal – sometimes yes, sometimes no. It seemed to work ok in conversations, but it didn't organize very well. Like when I went to take a bath, I brought all of my clothes, but forgot a towel. I re-traced my steps a lot.

DSC06016 Stephen and Carol Allan, whose home seems to be my NZ home, have 3 children, Robbie, Cameron and Kate. Cameron turned 21 yesterday. Last night was a celebration of his birth. So both his grandmothers Jane and Valerie, his parents, his siblings, Robbie's friend Julan, and me – we were all here for his birthday dinner. And delicious it was.

For me it was one of those lucky coincidences. I had met Cameron on my last visit and felt instant rapport. I just liked him. Same with all members of the Allan Family – easy to connect and Real.

Cameron is one of those 'young people,' who generate hope for our future. He is thoughtful and open about who he is; his talents, challenges, and the dreams that matter to him in his heart of hearts. And there is something ethically pure about his heart.

His place in the family is assured. That was something I noticed very quickly. The Allan Family enjoy each other, laughter was frequent – never 'at' one of the members, always "with.' It's one of those families that 'should have' children.

Thank you Carol and Stephen for having Cameron on the day I would be arriving in NZ in the future, and thank you Cameron for celebrating it at home!
