Kevin Kasperitis
Kevin Kasperitis is the Training Supervisor for the next More To Life Weekend in Huntsville, Alabama (March 18-20). In our conversation yesterday, he mentioned several instances lately that had a similar "feel" to him. When we looked at what tied those lifeshocks (something that happens) together, he could see that each one was an instance in which he didn't think he was being heard. That traced back to his childhood – being in the middle of seven kids, when he had the same interpretation then, as he discovered today – "I have to stop wanting to be heard."
I could see Kevin as child, giving up the desire to be heard – I felt a pang in my own heart, remembering what it was like to have my input discounted or ignored, just because I was a child.
If you know Kevin, you would never guess that that kind of mindtalk would be running underground. He manages a group of people important to the success of a big vision. What he says impacts lots of people, as well as the direction of big projects. And he's fundamentally doing the same thing, from a humanistic viewpoint, as the leader of the next MTL weekend. What is really working for him IS that he cares about bringing his best to all he does. And he's sensitive enough to notice any slight deviation from delivering his best and willing enough to ferret it out and get it handled.
In this case, he's chosen to listen more astutely to Kevin – call it Kevin's essence or heart or inner child or the Pure/Unadulterated Kevin. I think the world would be a better place if we all did that more often.
PS That's a pic of Kevin and Wanda the Wonder Dog.
While many of our classmates picked on me – she showed me friendship.
