LIFE AS IT IS

The Positive Power of Being Fed UP

John Rankin, a priest for the Unity Church, said it in a sermon – many years ago. When I heard it, it pinged my body, and those words awakened yet another insight inside me. I never before equated being Fed-UP as a positive power. I assumed it was just another way my natural (and common) impatience showed up – Fed UP. I thought being Fed UP was a detriment to my peace of heart. One of my “failings.”

Looking at the experience of being Fed UP, I can see it from two angles. One angle is simply irritation that, one more time, life isn’t going my way. My unconscious reaction – “I’m taking my ball and going home.” I quit. Or worse, I succumb to your instructions for my life. Again.

However, there is another angle. For instance, a big pet peeve of mine – decisions made by someone else that affect my life, without any input from me. Big Pet Peeve. For me it smacks of being taken for granted that I’ll go along with whatever you have in mind for me. As if my input is superfluous and unwanted.

However at this stage in my life (hopefully more conscious), I am able to have “a talk” with whomever has crossed that line. Also however, if it happens more than once, I experience a boundary shift. The positive power of being Fed UP absolves me of continuing to be part of something that I am not a part of.  And I’m not mad. I’m not hurt. I’m Freed UP.

So whatever you are Fed UP about, consider reaffirming your boundaries – consciously. Give grace where you can … until it’s disrespectful of yourSELF. Otherwise, you give others license to run your life.

Fed UP …. Or …. Freed UP …. You choose.
