LIFE AS IT IS

Points of Light

My evening walk started a bit later than normal … a dusky, twilight evening, not quite inky yet. My intention was to be mindful of every step, awake to all incoming data via my senses.

My awake, mindful-mind lasted a few minutes, then was subsumed by thoughts about my upcoming training here in Houston – Launchpad. It is only the second time it’s ever been presented, still in “pilot” mode. While mentally reviewing what happened last time, possible refinements bubbled up, ways to tweak it this way, that way.

Out of the dusk, popped little points of light – fireflies (yes I live in the country). Fireflies have always been a delight for me. Some people call them lightening bugs, but for me they are fireflies – out of the blue, unexpected, unnoticed … until they light up with their bioluminescence – snaimagespping me right back into the present moment – me and fireflies!

I know when someone has natural bioluminescence – lit up from the inside. Alive. Awake to the moment. They attract the eye and the heart – a point of light in the duskiness of life.

I want that – to light up with my own bioluminescence. What if we ALL decided to light up our own bioluminescence?

      1. Like you, I have so many delicious, delightful, early memories of chasing fireflies, putting some in a jar for closer inspection, then letting them go, cuz I knew they shouldn’t be contained …. bioluminescence is meant to be free.

I’ve always loved fireflies (lightening bugs to me growing up) and I love your visual of a person lit up from the inside, getting our attention, a point of light.

I have a delicious memory from WOW 2 while camping in the mountains. I woke Jenny, my tent-mate, in the wee hours of the night because, well, I had to go wee and didn’t want to go out there alone. When we stepped out of the tent we saw the most magical sight – the trees lining the edges of our field were lit up like Christmas trees – filled with fireflies. I am breathing it now just remembering.
